How to ship lost handgun to owner?

My friend accidentally left his new handgun (with paperwork from seller) at my house in Illinois and I need to get it back to him (he lives in Florida). How do I do this?

Update:

Seller also is in Florida

If you are not selling or transferring ownership of the weapon in any way (your not) you do not have to send it from a gun dealer to a gun dealer.

Actually he can to send it to himself at the new location. You can be "In Care Of" with his name as the return address.

You can send it to his original dealer if that dealer has a FFL (all real dealers do). That is the most legit way.

UPS and FedEx will only let you ship certain ways, usually some form of next day delivery or air service.

The biggest problem is that you must ship from an actual FedEx or UPS counter, not an "approved" agency or anything like a Kinko's or "UPS store". OR if you have access to a business that has daily pickup (not one time) UPS will take the packaged gun from them.

You cannot send a handgun bu USPS, long guns are OK, in fact USPS is the best way but no handguns.

Go to a gun store. Arrange for them to ship it to a gun store in Florida. Your friend picks it up there. You will have to pay both gun stores a fee for handling the shipment plus the shipping fees.

Do not try to mail it. That is illegal.

You might check with FedEx or UPS to see if they can do it.

Or you can drive or fly to Florida and hand deliver it.

You need to take it to a gun dealer near you, so that he can ship it to a gun dealer near your friend.
