big misconception!! It is not the root canal that hurts, it is the abscess that leads to the root canal that is painful. people will say "I had to have a root canal the other day, it wa so painful" The tooth ache was what was painful not the root canal. Once they numb the tooth, you feel nothing!

The only pain I had was my throat was a little sore afterward and my gum was a tiny bit irratated for a few hours. If the dentists numbs it correctly you won't feel a thing.

It depends on how infected the tooth is. For the most part you should not feel a thing. However, there are rare occasions where it hurts.

With or without anesthesia? With anesthesia, it doesn't hurt at all. Once the dead nerve is removed from the tooth, it will have no feeling.
