How hard is French 1010 for a beginner?

I took three years of French in high school many years ago. When I traveled to France a few years ago, I refreshed online, was able to reasonably comprehend, in French, menus, a booklet on rail travel, various signs and instructions needed for the trip. Visited a hands on science museum aimed at kids, found my language skills were not equal to the task, probably because I did not know specialized terms. Think I could handle college university French 1010?
