What is the probable year of production of a K-22 masterpiece, sn 106xxx?

You need to provide a bit more information. Smith & Wesson made a K-22 Target Masterpiece, a K-22 Combat Masterpiece, and a .22 cal. kit gun.

So, which do you have?

The Target Masterpiece will have a six inch or eight & 3/8 inch barrel, adjustable rear sights and usually a partridge front sight. This gun later became the Model 17.

The Combat Masterpiece will have a four inch barrel, adjustable rear sight, and a Baughman Quick Draw front sight.

The kit guns are usually on small frames, like the old 'I" frame or "J" frame, the closet gun to it today is the Model 317.

I suspect your gun was probably made in the late 1940's, after WWII; or very early in the 1950's.

Value can vary quite a bit depending on which model you have. If in decent shape, a kit gun can go for around $300. The Target and Combat Masterpiece guns can pull in about $500.

For about $30 Smith & Wesson will do a records search on your gun. You get a nice, suitable for framing, letter from S&W historian that will tell you when the gun was made, what features it had, and where it was shipped to. You can find a form to fill out on S&W web site.

The K-22 Masterpiece has a "K" prefix in front of the serial number, so K106XXX is made in 1951.In that year the serial number ranges from K104,108-K136,690.
