Add a teaspoon of household bleach to a vase of water. Make sure the water is slightly warm. Add a teaspoon of sugar and a dash of vinegar. Trim the ends off the stems and put the flowers in the vase. Keep in a cool, dark place. Don't refrigerate the flowers as a household refrigerator is too dry for flowers. Change the water daily (also adding bleach, sugar and vinegar).

The bleach is to kill any bacteria in the water, the sugar is to feed the flowers and the vinegar is to make the water more acidic to suit the flowers needs. Use warm water, not cold as there are less air bubbles in hot water. Air bubbles in the water can cause blockages in the flowers' stem and prevent them from taking up the water properly.

  • buy them the day you're going to give them to her. The florist or grocery store will give you a packet of powder to put in their water to make them last a little longer. Good idea to clip a half inch off the bottoms of the stems when changing the water and adding the powder.

ok, first thing when you get home is to cut the stems at a 45 degree angle under cold running water, when u fill the vase put some sugar in the water and keep them in the refrigerator until you give them to her.
