Upload is when information goes from your computer to the internet, and download is when information goes from the internet to your computer.

When you do something as simple as searching the internet you are uploading info on what you are looking for. Downloading is copying a file from the net to your pc.

Download: You take a file (that didn't belong to you) from somebody or from a website
Upload: You put one of your files to a website for other people to see or share
