Creating a music demo, help!?

I want to do pop music demo in a studio but I'm not sure how everything works. Do you have to make the whole song before hand or can you just bring in lyrics and have someone produce it for you? And if you do have to create the song before hand, how would that work? Please answer!!

either way. Alot of recording studios will make you pay an engineer by the hour and they will make songs for your lyrics and work with you to create an album. That can be quite expensive. you might be better off making your own music and just paying for studio time. This can be way cheaper but then you have to get into creating music.

Recording and producing are not the same thing. Producing is the act of writing and arranging music, and is done by a music producer. Recording is the act of recording songs that are already written, and is done by a recording engineer.

Obviously, you can save yourself a ton of money by writing and arranging your own music and just recording it.

But if you do use a music producer's services, schedule that as a seperate session - don't expect to walk into a studio at 9 with just lyrics and leave at 5 with a fully-recorded demo.
