Why are so many people so upset about the mosque being built in manhattan ?

Certain, uneducated people have been told that all Muslims are terrorists by other people with hidden agendas.

If all Muslims are terrorists, then all Baptists protest military funerals ala Fred Phelps.

Because in the long term, it can potentially become a breeding ground for future mujaheddin. If you build something, anything for a group of people to use in an area where they may be subjected to constant harassment and potentially violent backlash after awhile they become embittered toward their tormentors and would be prone to suggestions of retribution. Young men are especially mold able in this manner and they are the backbone of the insurgency. Al Qaeda does not think in terms of the immediate, they plan long term and we're looking 5 - 15 years down the road. I am all for religious freedom, its one of the many freedoms we fight for, but to build a mosque in an area where muslims will be treated in a disgraceful manner and it is known that there will be friction is not being respectful to the followers or the faith, it's seeking conflict. As a Native American (part Sioux) I will be honest that though I was resentful of the actions of the government in places such as Wounded Knee I still love the America I know. At it's best we are a beacon of hope in this world, at it's worst...just turn on the news today and watch how we don't need to be attacked from the outside because we are destroying ourselves. To reiterate, mosque fine, location bad. Move it a few blocks and hopefully cooler heads prevail, I heard Donald Trump was willing to buy it at market value plus 25%. If that offer is flat out refused, then you know the Imam is looking to set up in a bad location for the sole purpose of recruiting the muj.

I hate all religion, it's just how who I am, however, there should not even be a discussion about this. There should never be a mosque, the symbol of those who attacked innocent civilians, allowed to be built on the very same location of the attack. That is just pure lunacy, plain and simple. Why don't we build a torii gate at Pearl Harbor to symbolize the Japanese victory over us there as well. I'm still proud of the US, even though I don't live there any longer, and yes, I served 3 times in the Middle East, twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan.

Don't waste your time trying to reason with them. Their "logic" is essentially: Terrorists attacked us on 9/11; they did so in the name of Islam; therefore, Islam is evil. People whose minds operate like that can't be reasoned with. There's no use trying to have a rational conversation with them.

To me, it's a security blanket from future attacks.

I'm not pissed that they're building it, I'm pissed that they're building it there. NYC is freaking big, why does it have to be there!? It wouldn't be as bad if there were other religious buildings there like a church or synagogue. But there aren't. So why does it have to be there!?

Because the of people who killed thousands of people on 9/11... I don't know if you knew this but THEY WERE AMERICANS! Plus it's very close to the location were those thousands of AMERICANS died!
