When you argue with someone?
Do you normally try to prove yourself right, or try to prove your opponent wrong?

I find arguments are often a learning process by which my opinions can change; if I listen to both sides of the exchange that is. I try to prove my opponent is wrong and I am right simultaneously, but also I may come to accept that I am wrong; although I may not admit it at that time. No one likes to lose face do they?

I would show someone that I am right but people choose not to see when they don't want to, so the best bet is to not argue and let them figure it out or remain ignorant......and that is only if I know I am right....If I am in doubt I will look further, even beyond what the other person's explanation or version of it may be. To me it isn't about who is right or wrong, but what is true and with some things, some truths are more personal than others.

Devil's advocate. No I don't do either. I try to state my case in the best possible way of understanding of what it is we're trying to prove.
And I don't argue my point of view, I discuss it in a calm and positive way, and if I feel that the other person has stated his case better than me, then I will concede to his statement and more knowledgeable view point. Tempers get frayed when arguing a right or wrong scenario.

Hi....I guess, "To prove my conviction is right will have to attest my opponent's fault and error to justify the means."
To acquire clarity without malice or other erroneous schemes.
To validate something essentially appropriate and morally righteous.
Have a wonderful time..!

prove them wrong. You already know you are right but for them to see that you need to show them their argument is wrong

If I know the correct answer I try to prove myself right.
If I don't, and he is spewing out complete nonsense, or you don't remember the answer, prove him wrong.

When this one shares with others, this one does not feel the need to disprove, condemn or judge.
One needs only to be open so as to learn from the lived experience of others and of one's self as we strive to live in harmony with the reality of all that is as it is.

I see it as a debate. Each of us presents the point and evidence to back it up. If it is with a spouse it turns ugly because it becomes a personal attack.

I just try to get my point across and if the argument
is going nowhere you have to step back and agree to disagree...
