While naming a baby, do you prefer giving it a common or an uncommon name?

And are there any key points to choose a good name

Uncommon for me, it's just how I am.

The key point to choosing a name is you have to like it, whether it's common or uncommon. You have to imagine your child being able to grow up with that name.

Both. I love the names Taylor, Erin, and Sarah, which are both commonly used, but I'm also in love with the names Ivy and Skye, which are uncommon. Key points are using a name you love prouncing and ones that you feel give you a good vibe.

My friend is crazy. She loves SUPER uncommon names, like Quintessa (Quinn-Tessa), Faline (Fuh-Leene), Ginger, and Blair. I hate all of those names xD

For boys I choose whatever sounds cute and usually they're common names. I don't like uncommon boys names nowadays because they sound really girly. I like the masculine sounding boy names.

For girls I tend to choose the uncommon names but not the out there names. Like Savannah, Arabella, and Elliana. They have common nicknames but the names themselves aren't really common.

    =)

I like boys names to be strong, well known, easy to spell and masculine. Maybe in the top 10-30 list. I think girls can be more exotic, less common, say top 20 - 50. But the main thing is that the spelling is sensible, the names sounds good all together, and will age well.

To me it all matters what you look like and if your name is unusual or common. Is it going to be a girl or a boy? Uncommon names are great for girls ei. Katana and Common cute names are great for boys just spelled a little different ei. Jakob! Good luck!

  • Uncommon.

I prefer a proper name which is easy to spell but not common

I don't like anything made up or given a strange spelling to make it unique

I would choose an unpopular traditional name!

I think when naming a child, the two most important things are whether you like the name and whether your child is likely to be picked on because of the name. So, if you like 'out there' names like Shadow, Story, Harlow etc then team it with a relateively 'normal' name eg Harlow Nicole, so they can go by their middle name if they need to. Or give a name that can have a nickname eg Harlow = Harley, Harry, Lola. So, if they don't like their name, they can pick their own.

I myself like beautiful, elegant, sophisticated names like Emilia Kate, Brooke Sophia and Willow Emma.

i like 'common' but under used names. i hate how people are chopping up classic names with uncommon spellings. its just retarded. how do you think shannykwa is gonna feel about her name in school?

I lean toward slightly hippie and/or British names... my kids are:

    Simon Piers

    Willow Fay

    A future son would be:

    Desmond Zane

I think it's okay to use unique names as long as you don't go overboard with it. Names should be easy to spell and pronounce, and should sound like human names. (Example: "Cadence" is okay, "Tuesday" is not.)
