Does any one understand adaware?
Adaware used to be a free application but now seems no longer free. Is there another software that will detect and remove unwanted things from my computer.
I seem to have something that is popping up a message every five minutes or so.
I'd like to delete it but can't find it. I have a new Windows 7 and don't fully understand it.

I would scan with malwarebytes antimalware and/or superantispyware - both products have free versions - quarantine all detected items

if you don't want to install superantispyware, you can run a free portable version here

neither of these offer real time protection unless you pay for them. If you have no antivirus software currently, install Microsoft Security essentials - it's free and gives real time antivirus and antispyware protection and won't conflict with malwarebytes etc

Use Firefox with "NoScript" and "AdblockPlus".
âºFIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings..."> Check 'Accept Cookies from sites'
& Un-Check 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'
My personal Firefox Collection, for improved security, and a tad bit of 'appearance' mod's.

At minimum get "NoScript" which blocks scripted assets (and tons of leveraged vectors) until you allow them...much better than trying to get rid of malware picked up by blanket allowance.
Note that some items themselves need tailoring to fit your unique personal browsing needs.
IE does not have exceptional "3rd party" blocking. For that reason, and many other security related ones (especially 'active scripting' rubbish), it should not be used except for sub-standard websites or Windows updates.
