Why are Michigan voters overwhelmingly supporting a Republican for Governor?
As of September 9, 2010, Rick Snyder, the Republican candidate, holds a double-digit lead in every single region in Michigan except for Detroit. In Detroit he has the support of only 10.5 percent of the voters. The polling shows union households are putting their support behind Republican Rick Snyder as well, even though Virg Bernero has been endorsed by the UAW.
Michigan has been under the leadership of Democrat Jennifer Granholm for eight years, and Michigan voted for Obama overwhelmingly. Why the huge shift?

Great question ... no easy answer and, in my view, voting in a republican is no better than keeping the status quo.
As you most likely know, the state of Michigan has endured an economic reversal for a good 20-25 years ... largely related to the collapse of the American auto industry (which, in my view, is not a result of the good, hard-working people of Michigan, but much more a result of inept leadership from federal, state, and local government [dems and repubs alike] as well as an abysmal hubris from the business community to work at sustaining an economic base for the people of Michigan generally and those associated with the auto industry in particular.
This past Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer (where I live) wrote an article about the dismal housing market and the percentage of houses -across the U.S.- that have mortgages owed more than the value of the home. Although Nevada leads the country with an unbelievable 68.1%, the state of Michigan is up at the top end also with states like California, Arizona, Florida, and Virginia. For those clamoring for a "republican fix" let's not soon forget this current housing/mortgage crisis is the by-product of Lil Georgie and his cronies.
To answer your question directly, Michigan voters are doing what too many americans have been doing over the history of our electoral system, vote out one party when things "aren't right" and vote in the other party. It is a simplistic, unexamined action that, as was so aptly put in Shakespeare's "Macbeth" offers a rather unflattering examination of the abject failures of our political system:
"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
To the last syllable of recorded time,
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools

After being screwed over by the Democrats for what must seem like forever -It's time to replace their worthless a$$es and elect some new blood into your state and hope that they can undo what the Democrats have done to the State of Michigan and its people.
We all have been screwed over by President Obama and we are mad as hell and won't take it any more and come November he will get the message loud and clear.
Time to take back America and put ourselves back on track and back to work.

Because the auto industry nearly collapsed and the state has been in a state of recession for a number of years now. Democrats have had control for, as you said, 8 years and the situation has gotten much worse under their tenure. I would imagine the voters are fed up and are voting for some "change".

The real leftists were quite unknowed from american poeple they are a brend of neo Trotskysts fed by the same bankers who corrupt the States.
Now you know them you learnt from several places and I remember trying to explain from where they are coming how they always work to climb the ladder of power : chase them lawfully by vote but care chase them large including a pencil pusher in any departement:they use to leave behind them as they have lost GOOPHERS which work underground to rebuild the ugly socialism.

Granholm was a lousy governor and with the Democrats in DC being so inept, there is quite a bit of distaste for electing a Democrat.
