What is customs like in the Philippines?

We are going to the Philippines and my husband's cousin gave us a pool flow-cell (a part to a pool pump) to bring with us to give his aunt for their pool. It is in a heavy box (about 33 lbs). We are going to check it as separate luggage. I am nervous about how strict they are when we get there. Will they try to confiscate it? Will they try to bribe us for money? Should I be concerned about a pool flow-cell?

the item is definitely not for any commercial purpose. it's like bringing a microwave oven intended as a gift. i doubt if customs will make a big deal about it. tell them it's an accessory for a pool. i don't even foresee that you have to pay any tax on it. nothing to worry about.
