Artificial Insemination?

I am scheduled to have my first AI in a couple of weeks. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for many years now, but took a two year break to help both of our mothers through cancer. We decided that we'd like to start trying again, and I made an appointment with my RE for today. When I went into his office, I was really expecting to begin all over with the lab work and all that. He pleasantly surprised me though, by saying, "OK, let's pick up where we left off." And he told me to call back when I start my cycle, and we'll get started. Low and behold, as soon as I got home, my period had started! So I called, and they've got me scheduled for an IUI on the 27th! It just caught me off guard to be happening so fast! I mean, I'm grateful that I didn't have to go through it all over again, but I'm just a little shocked. The pharmacy called today to say my Clomid and HCG injection are ready to be picked up already! Anyway, I'm looking for any info, suggestions, tips, and whatnot for my first IUI.

Good luck!!! My husband and I tried for 3 years, did 3 rounds of IUI (1 with clomid, 2 with injectibles) and stopped short of IVF (couldn't handle the hormones or stress anymore- now moving on to adoption). I remember being very nervous for my first one, but it was so easy. It takes only seconds to do and then you lie there for about 10-15 minutes. You didn't say that they were doing any monitoring- they did monitor me for all 3 of mine to make sure the follicle was the size required for triggering. If they trigger too soon, you may be triggering immature follicles that aren't capable of fertilization.

That's great that they are just picking up where you left off and that you don't have to go through all of the testing again. I was told to expect the typical 20-25% success rate, but I remember it being especially hard to not have my hopes up. It was the WORST ttw ever, so plan on doing some extra deep breathing. Oh, and refrain from testing too early- the trigger can last a few days (I forget how many off the top of my head) and can give you a really faint + line if you are testing early with a sensitive kit.

I really wish you the best of luck with it!!!

Honestly I'd be doing a LOT of googling and writing down questions for your doctor and going to webmd .... and pregnancy websites ....
