what can i do to help my 6 month old sleep through the night?
hi everyone, my son is almost six months old and i want to know what i can do to help him sleep thru the night or at least sleep a little longer. he still wakes up at least 3 times at night. sometimes he doesnt even wake up because he's hungry, he wakes up to play. he will wake up and "talk" for like 2 hrs before falling back asleep. i mean its cute during the day but not so much when i am exhausted. the crying it out doesnt work with him becuz he WILL cry until he starts shaking and thats pretty scary. i am a single mom and its really taking a toll on me and im at my wits end. i am starting school in january and i want to find a solution to this before its too late. plz help. any advice at all.
thnx for the answers ladies, i have tried the cereal thing, and i cant use johnsons products on y little one becuz of his eczema, it just makes it worse. i will try keeping him up more during the day, although he doesnt nap for long, the longest he will nap for is 20 minutes. we go for walks but that only makes him sleep more. *sigh*

YOU SHOULD TRY && PUT SOME CEREAL IN HIS BOTTLE.... THAT SHOULD HELP HIM SLEEP LONGER THRU THE NIGHT.... ALSO MAKE SURE THE BOTTLE IS WARM TOO.....

My son is now 2. He used to wake up 5 times a night - not kidding! This worked for me: I made sure my son only slept 2 - 3 hours during the day. My son was out by 7:30 - 8 p.m at the latest. Around 6 pm or so, I would bathe, powder and use night cream on him. The night cream is by Johnson's and it's a bedtime lotion (helps babies relax). Use warm milk when putting him to sleep and he should do much better. I know what your going through so just be patient and stay strong - this is only temporary.
Most importantly - make sure he stays active during the day and doesnt sleep so much because the more naps he gets - it's taking from him sleeping at night (he's no longer tired when he should be sleeping). Good Luck and enjoy him ; )

"what can i do to help my 6 month old sleep through the night?" Wait it out. 90% of 6 month olds do not sleep through the night, your son is completely normal. I know it's difficult, but your son WILL sleep through the night one day.
Cereal in a bottle is dangerous, and will not help him sleep longer, especially if you suspect he's not waking up hungry. Routine helps, but is no guarantee that your baby will STTN. And J&J products are toxic.
I had the same bedtime routine for both of my babies. My first slept through the night at 6 months, my second at 13 months. She woke every 1-2 hours until she was 8 months old.
Hang in there, your baby needs you night AND day. January is a long way off, alot can happen in that time.

if you find out let me know:)
my 6 month old randomly sleeps through the night.. other nights she wakes around 3 times.
what helps is doing a dream feed right before i go to bed. you just pick them up (still asleep) and feed and place right back to bed.
also during the night when she would wake i would jsut feed and not change her, however when i started changing her diaper, she would sleep longer because she was comfortable.
the cereal thing is bull c***. i tried that and it made no difference in how many wakings she had. i know TONS of 6 month olds who are still not sleeping through the night. it is SO hard i really feel your pain and i dread waking up at night, but i know one day it will end and we will be complaining that our teenagers sleep too much (oh how i cant wait for that day :))

Same as Mel.. Start putting some cereal in the last feeding of the night. Now if baby is waking up to play and not hungry in the middle of the night that means he's sleeping to much during the day. You need to try and rouse him before his nap is over and really play hard before he goes to bed. Wear him out and then give him that bottle with a little extra solid food in it.

I hate to say it but my 22 month old son still wakes up once or twice a night. It's hard, but it does end eventually. Actually when my son was 6 months old I put a foam mattress on the floor in his room and we both slept on it every night. I never heard a peep out of him when I slept with him. I did decide to "move back in" to my room a few months ago and now I just go in and rock him for about 10 - 15 minutes when he wakes up. Good luck!
