are there any over the counter anxiety medications?

i just recently moved to ottawa from a rural area. i also started school, and my course is pretty heavy so far. lastly my girlfriend and i broke up a couple days ago. so things have been overwhelming. i do have a small anxiety problem but it has been manageable. but now its out of control... i dont want to have to go to the doctors or anything. i just want to know if there is something that can help me calm down and stay calm. any help would be nice thanks.

Boring i know but I think the best way of getting round mild anxiety is exercise. It also helps you sleep and doesn't have side effects.

Avoid medication at all costs. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety products have extremely dangerous side effects. You explain perfectly what your problems are. Events that most people would experience in a normal lifetime. The cure! Time mainly. Most problems are time limited. The things that are making you anxious are still fresh and as you accustom yourself to your new lifestyle you will find they offer new challenges that have their own rewards. Face the challenges with optimism. Drugs whether they be pharmaceutical or street drugs will only cause you further problems. Tomorrow is the start of your new life look forward positively.

Promethazine (Phenergan) is an anti-histamine that is prescribed off-hand for use as a non-benzo anti-anxiety, I'm pretty sure it's OTC in Canada.

    and GET a GRIP!

Valerian root capsules help me. You can buy them at WalMart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. They are in the vitamin section.
