If I study Artificial Intelligence at university, what future career prospects do I have?

I am considering studying AI (and software engineering) at university, because I have skills in the necessary areas (maths, computers). But I don't want to study a subject that's going to leave me with very few career prospects.

Can anyone with experience in this field give me any information on where I can take a degree in this subject?

automation and robotics seem like a perfectly applicable fields to me, but i would rather recommend you to go speak with the university consultants on this matter. behind the names every university has its own curriculum, might suit you might as well not. in any case expect lots of maths and programming in this specialization

Well ... if you succeed in creating actual artificial intelligence, your career future is unlimited. You'll be able to name your own price. (Or you may not need to worry about price. It would be the ultimate "order from the left side of the menu" situation - for the rest of your life. Bill Gates should have that kind of power.) But you should be able to live with frustration - you'll probably be experiencing decades of it.

Software engineering? That's a more reasonable goal, and you have many career paths.

You'll need skills in philosophy, psychology and possibly neurology as well.

Anyways.... It's hard to find a career in AI because of the skill level required, but demand is picking up.

I advise that you DON'T go to MIT to learn about this, despite them being an excellent school, their thoughts on AI are completely whack.
