Was Ivan THIS Terrible?
A co worker told me that Ivan IV commissioned an architect to design some buildings, then removed his eyes so he could not see his work/design again. This seems kind of campy, but sometimes history is stranger than fiction. If it's true please cite a source.

Yes he did
St. Basil's Cathedral was the building. It was shaped like flame of a bonfire rising into the sky. The architect was Postnik. It is said he blinded the architect so he could never replicate or build something better. It was built to commemorate Ivan's successful military campaign against the Mongols.
However, he wasn't all that terrible.
his title of Ivan the Terrible has been placed in doubt by some historians, because very little of Ivan is known except through second-hand sources. He actually did some decent things for Russia. After killing his son on accident, he became 'terrible'

I went on a school history trip to Russia 2 years ago, and I seem to remember our tour guide mentioning this to us when we were outside of St Basil's... so I've had a bit of a Google to check it, and apparently it's only a legend, but it's said that after St Basil's was built, he had the architect, Postnik Yakovlev, blinded, so that he could never design anything that was more beautiful than St Basil's.
Apparently. I'm pretty sure it's never been proven.
EDIT - Actually, it probably isn't true, as Yakovlev went on to design the Kazan Kremlin and a cathedral in Kazan (Cathedral of the Assumption) after St Basil's was completed. And he designed the northeast chapel of St Basil's, which wasn't built until 1588, after Ivan IV died.

St. Basil's Cathedral was the building. The legend is that he had all of the architects blinded so that nothing so beautiful could be built again.

Why became Ivan The poor so advise? the two one among Ivan the poor's dad and mom died at an early age. He became raised by using boylars who did not pay any interest to him. In his letters, he could communicate approximately feeling on my own. at first his reign became ok. As issues began to pass undesirable, he grew to become mentally risky. it quite is the reason he became so advise.

His uncle Boris the Not Very Nice would never write thank-you notes and burped loudly in public.

He was terrible, but I don't think he went that far.
