Would people still be religious if it gave them no comfort?

Isn't religion like a drug (because of the way it makes addicts feel)?

Isn't giving in to religion immoral in the same sense that giving in to drugs is?

Drug addicts enjoy losing their mind: Isn't it immoral to spread religion as belief is not rational?

Your thoughts on any of the above questions would interest me...

My spiritual disciplines give me little bliss, bliss isn't the point, nor does it make my life easier.

My goal is to see past culture and illusion, and to tame my ego.

I give little thought to what will become of me.

This isn't an easy path, nor is it evangelical, no one needs to be like me or even share my opinions.

I search every faith for answers.

I'm amazed how much they have in common.

    Mystics are like that.

Nope. Religion is a give-and-take, just like anything else. No promise of eternal life, no followers. It's just human nature.

everybody believes something that isnt totally rational and its not the same as chemically altering your perception imo .. many ideas that 'non-religious' people want to promote are in fact HIGHLY religious but on the evil side .. so chew on that ..

Religion doesn't necessary give one comfort but it can certainly give one hope

I was thinking of answering, "Would junkies do drugs if they didn't feel good?" before I read your additional details.

it's not just about getting comfort...people would eventually get bored of that.

when you know something as true, it's impossible to lie to yourself about what you think of it. this goes for anything, including "religion".

like knowing we were created and not here because we used to be chimps who used to be this who used to be that. you can't lie to yourself. i go about my everyday knowing something as true. it certainly doesnt feel like drugs or w.e it's just life.
