Who is more human/self centred?
1. Scientists are said to believe "man is the measure of all things". And some say they should wake up and realize that there are things beyond this realm and that science can't provide an answer for everything.
2. Many religions claim God made a world with us as His crowning achievement e.g. "sixth day" in Genesis. Some say they are fools to believe in "a universe made just for us"...
Thanks in advance for your answers.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI have a question...?
Assuming God exists is he/she in a good mood today? Are they happy?
I've often said "True love is when someone else's happiness becomes the foundation of your own". So if you love God then his/her moods should matter - right?
P.S. I'm an atheist so I'm aware of the question being more than a bit mad but I'm really curious what thoughtful people think about this - Of course if you are thoughtless you can answer too :o)
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWould people still be religious if it gave them no comfort?
Isn't religion like a drug (because of the way it makes addicts feel)?
Isn't giving in to religion immoral in the same sense that giving in to drugs is?
Drug addicts enjoy losing their mind: Isn't it immoral to spread religion as belief is not rational?
Your thoughts on any of the above questions would interest me...
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is the literal truth of the bible important to some Christians?
The bible is surely just a description of key religious events and interpretations of them. If the bible is to be believed then the 10 commandments and Jesus exist independently of the bible. As a scientist I hold true (actually "true" is a simplification...) certain scientific theories but I do not insist on the literal truth of a particular scientific textbook. It is weird to my mind that the bible has such an exalted status even though it was written by what were in effect "historians" (of a sort) and we know historians make mistakes. Why is the literal truth of the bible important to some Christians?
There's even a verse in the bible that says something like "the only way is Jesus's way" yet some Christians sound like they are in a different belief system that says something like "the only way is the Bible's way". Strange thing is that these do not sound like the same thing (exactly) to me?

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes the Anthropic Principle argument for God sound arrogant to you?
Because we can't imagine what wonders might exist in an alternative reality but arrogantly assume we can imagine anything, we say our world is special...

What do you make of "Philosophical Theism"?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do fundamentalist Christians attack evolutionary biology...?
Why do fundamentalist Christians attack evolutionary biology in particular when other sciences such as geology and astrophysics are equally challenging to Bible literalism?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoGod given process of evolution...?
God makes universe >> Man appears in universe (via God given process of evolution) >> So God makes Man indirectly... So why is evolution not accepted by many Christians in the USA?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI ask again - What should I make of THIS?
I asked a question 13 people answered it and now it has been removed?
When does a guy like me get "good standing" in this community??
Oh BTW the question was "Have muslims been deliberately hiding a certain side of their religion?" and I was inspired to ask the question because of a claim made on a certain website I linked to...

... what are your thoughts on this?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do you bother with this?
I'm interested in your view in the context of This:-
"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

Given we in the West are in a free society then whatever belief system you are in (even atheistic) why should you care what other people believe?
