please help - wife had triple bypass and valve replacement?

my wife had a triple bypass and mitral valve replacement last thursday. her heart is fine, but she is not recovering well from the anesthetic/sedation. She is "out of it", unresponsive and not in control of her own body. she opens her eyes but doesn't have control over them. the doctors admitted that they don't know whats wrong with her. she has been evaluated by a neurologist who said that she is fine and should come out of it soon. That was two days ago. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Update:

sorry - my question is is this reaction to the anesthetic/sedation common?

With such a prolonged and complicated surgery there can be adverse reactions to anesthesia. With the major surgery that your wife has undergone some complications might be expected. The fact that she has not fully recovered by now, while not unheard of, is not common. Age is a factor in recovering from anesthesia. The older the person the slower the recovery. Recovery from such major surgery has to be handled on a case by case basis. As an example my brother-in-law had a heart valve replacement and an aortic arch repair/replacement done. He was "out of it" for at least 3 days. He had cognitive complications for weeks after. So it depends on the individual. Just keep close watch on your wife and if you feel it necessary have other doctors check on her condition. A second opinion never hurts. I wish her a full recovery soon.
