Do you know fo any literary, pop culture, or mythological characters who lose everything?
I am looking for a pretty specific type of losing everything.
I want someone who has lost everything through no fault of their own. One who becomes a pitiful character, that wrenches sympathy even out of the coldest people among us.
I am noot looknig for characters such as Hamlet who led to their own downfall. Characters with redemptions are also not what I am looking for, but a few of them would still be helpful.
Thank you for your help!
Good kat, but I am looking for a more universally known character. One that I could name to 12 random people and have at least 8-10 automatically know or recognize the story.

I don't know if this counts, but Carl Streator from Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. He thought he led to his own downfall, but he didn't.

The best example I can think of is the protagonist from the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne. He is framed for the murder of his unfaithful wife and her lover, loses his status as a wealthy banker and is sentenced to life at Shawshank State Penitentiary. Although he eventually finds redemption, Andy most definitely possesses the qualities you have listed above. I hope this helps.
