(7x+y)+4(x-2y) i am supposed to simplify, do i distribute the 4?

    ( 7x + y ) + 4 ( x - 2y )

    distribute the 4

    7x + y + 4x - 8y

    now combine like terms

    answer is

    11x -7y

    Yes and then combine x and y components:

    (7x+y)+4(x-2y) ==> 7x + y + 4x - 8y ==> (7x + 4x) + (y - 8y) ==> 11x-7y
