I work in FL but my employer is in PA, which state do I file unemployment? FL only pays $275/wk?

I am a Florida resident but my employer is located in PA. I was recently laid off and have file for unemployment in FL but just found out that no matter what you salary is, the maximum is $275/wk. I see that PA pays up to 50% of weekly pay which would be about $500...can i file in PA?

You file in the state where you worked. For example, if you lived in Florida but worked in Georgia, you would file in Georgia. (With some states, it can even depend on which county.)

This website has a lot of information, but you will get more information from Florida.

    I hope this helps.

Did your employer take a deduction out of your check for PA unemployment. Pennsylvania is one of three states where employees also contribute to unemployment (although not to the extent as the employer), and that's why the maximum is higher here. If he didn't you don't have any credits to file here.

lots of "employers" are located in other states and have employees in MANY states - they would have reported your wages to Florida ONLY - the state YOU worked in - if you tried applying to Pa, you wouldn't get anything, because you would not come up in their system - your wages were reported to Fla, not Pa

IF you had worked IN Penna, you would have had to have been making about $1000/wk gross for probably the last 5 full calendar qtrs to get $500 a wk in benefits. you just can't compare the each state pays as a 'maximum benefit" - your benefit is based on your earnings and how many weeks you worked in the benefit cal year

You would file a claim in Florida, your state of residency and the state where you worked. Where the employer's business location/main office is, does not affect you.

you have to file where you are since your eligibility for unemployment each week is also based on your availability to accept a job that offered you, and you certainly cannot do that in Pa when you are living in Fla

No, your credits are through Florida. You have none in NJ.
