Someone plz help me here.. Sick puppy.?

I am depressed and crying as it is.. all day. PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS.

my boyfriend and I do not have the money this week to go to a vet. I called and they said it would be around $200 total to be seen and to get the medication. We barely have $60 for the week for food for us.

My puppy has kennel cough. It just started yesterday. He coughs and it sounds congested like he is going to throw up. It happens a few times every hour.

I heard it can turn into pneumonia and he can die. I am freaking out and so depressed and scared.

I am a good pet owner. I have 3 other dogs and 2 cats, and i've had dogs/cats all my life and they have NEVER gotten sick with something like this.

He DID get his first shot 2 weeks ago. My boyfriend and I DID take all our dogs (and the pup) to a dog park last week and I now know that that was a bad idea taking the puppy since that is probably where he got it from.

What can i do for this week? most vet's wont accept payment plans. I am trying to sell a few items on craigslist since I don't have much, but i am trying.

I have some robitussin DM and I do have some left over clavamox from when my boyfriend's husky got bit last year. They are 250 mg pills.

PLZ SOMEONE BE NICE AND HELP.

I am crying as i type this.

Jen, plz don't reply. you were rude in my last question even after i explained my situation.

NOT EVERYONE is rich and fortunate enough to have money available for anything in life that comes up. This couldn't have come at a worse time for us right now... my boyfriend and I JUST bought a new house and paid our truck payment. We seriously have $60 to last us a week (friday).

Update:

He is a APBT mix. About 12 pounds or so.. He's small.

Ask the vet himself. Just ask him, "Doc, I will be bringing in my puppy next week to see you when I get paid, but until them, what can I do to keep him alive". I am sure he has run into this situation before, so he can tell you who you might contact. He also will know your not just being cheap as some people are when they ask about making payments. He will also know that if the puppy dies, he just lost a customer. I know people will be staying stuff like don't get a dog if you can't afford it, yada, yada, yada. They need to just shut up. People sometimes go through tough times with the economy all screwed up, your not going to abandon your dog just because times are tight.

I had a vet, who's policy was "full payment due at time of service", type of guy. Well when I asked the question above, he cut the price, let me make payments, and took a post dated check for the first payment . Most vets are humanitarians, and didn't go into their line of work to get rich. You might be surprised. Anyway, I know my answer may not be of much help. Wish I could give more. Best of luck to you.

I totally understand and if I were you I would call a bunch of vets and explain the situation, you will get alot of nos before someone helps you but its worth a try. Clavamox will not help and its the wrong dosage for his size. Every one is right try the Robitussin DM and also keep him away from your other dogs, even if they have there bordetella vaccine that only covers 3-4 strands of the kennel cough virus and there are over 10 strands out there, try to keep the puppy calm which is not easy to do a kennel works best. The more it runs around the worse the cough will become. Try try try to get it into a vets office. I was once at a race with my huskies and someone came through the stakeout area with a dog that had a strand of the virus not covered by the vaccine and my whole pack caught it and basically you just treat the symptoms till it goes away.Sometimes its a 2 weeks my pack took 2 months so just be patient.

What about a humane society is there one near you do you have like we do in the UK low cost veterinary treatment or a place that will give you treatment at a small cost i do understand your short of money and you are trying but i still cant advice you to give your puppy any medication with out speaking or seeing a vet

The problem you will have is there is a chance with out treatment your puppy could die and i know this sounds really cruel but if you cant borrow any money from friends or family or sell any thing quick enough you may have to sign the dog over to get the vet care it needs

Try the Robitussin DM - that's what my old vet said to use for kennel cough; BUT, its for adults, not pupppies. Then pray that it works. How big is this puppy? Depending on his size, you'd give 1/2 - 1 tsp. a couple of times a day. He won't like the taste and it'll make him spit and gag because its strong for a dog.

People don't have to rich to and fortunate to have pets, but seriously, if you have 4 dogs and 2 cats you need to be able to afford basic vet care!

Some local chapters of the Humane Society or even local animal shelters have info on groups in the area that can help with things like this. The animal shelter may also be able to put you in touch with the local chapter of the Humane Society if you can't find them. Phone and ask. You may be able to get some help this way. If not, phone your vet and explain the situation. Ask for a deferred-payment plan. Some vets do this now, but some don't. You need to ask, and then be faithful to pay it off on schedule.

If you want some tips on feeding yourselves (the humans) well on a really tight budget, please email me and ask. I have been doing it voluntailry for many years because I work with a non-profit that can't pay much.

The only place I can recommend is this one besides contacting your local AC & HSUS.

You are only guessing it is kennel cough which in most cases is only a minor issue similar to a cold in humans. There is always the risk of becoming worse or worse from owner doing their own doctoring. You can do more harm than good giving meds from another pet & human meds & end up costing far more than simple vet visit. Good luck & stay off out dog parks & other pet friendly areas besides catching, you are spreading.

I am impressed at your determination to keep your puppy healthy. Normally, I would shun you for getting a puppy when you barely have money to feed yourself, but this is impressive. Kennel cough is rarely fatal, but it's good to get medicine. Sometimes, unsalted chicken broth can soothe it a little. A long time ago, when my puppy had kennel cough, he must have had it for 2 weeks before I was able to get him to the vet for medicine, and he ended up okay. Relax. Wonderful job, selling things to take care of your puppy? I admire you.

ADD: Awww! What an adorable puppy! He kind of looks like a Beagle, too.

u can give ur pup robotussin cough syrup and just try 1/4 teaspoon every 4 hrs and see if it helps.plug in a vaporizer and don't smoke or have any strong odors in the room where he is. keep him warm and dry and try to get him to drink lots of water or gatorade to rehydrate him.u might want to keep ur other pets away just in case he is contagious. he really needs to see the vet so maybe they will take payments so he can be looked at. if he has a fever u can give him a baby asperin and if he is a small breed cut the pill in half and every 6 to 8 hrs will help with fever and pain. good luck
