how long do baby elephants stay small for?
I hope to be taking my fiancee to a zoo in november. She likes the elephants, and the zoo had a baby elephant born in July. I know she thinks baby elephants are so cute. But how much will the baby elephant have grown by November? Will it still be small and cute and make her go "ahhhh", or will it pretty much be as big as the rest?
I don't want to big up the fact that there's a baby elephant there if it isn't a baby :)

It will still be really small. Takes two years from conception to being born so it ain't going to be fully grown in 5 months.....Not Chester Zoo by any chance?

Elephants are mammals and are the largest land animal. They have a lifespan that can be over 60 years. The elephant doesn't have any predators, except humans. Throughout the years, people honor elephants for their huge size and strength. Elephants were trained so that they carry heavy loads such as logs etc. They also play a role in traditional religious ceremonies. According to Encarta encyclopedia, there have been more than 600 species of elephants over the past 40 million years but only 3 species are here to this day. Those 3 species are the Asian elephant, savanna elephant, and forest elephant. Fossils showed that Elephants lived on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. But now elephants are restricted to living only on Africa, and southeast Asia as they seem to occupy a large amount of enviroments such as: marshes, mountains, deserts, grasslands and forests. Elephants are herbivores and they must a lot of plants to sustain their size and they also require lots of water. So they're habitat must consist of a ample vegetation, and enough water for them. Elephants have a complex social behavior, and they live in "tightly knit families". Their family size ranges from 2-29 elephants. Their families consist of sisters, nieces, aunts, cousins and their young offspring. They are lead by the oldest females. The group bathe, forage and travel together. The young males usually start to leave the family around the age of 6 and once they are sexually mature, they leave the family for good or they're "driven away by the older females". Elephants do communicate with eachother using touch, scent, body language and sound. Elephants are very intelligent and scientists believe that they are capable of "higher mental functions" than other mammels such as dogs and cats. Hope I helped you get the information you needed! Good luck (:

It will definitely not be full grown. Elephants have long life spans, and take a long time to reach full size
