  • i put the wrong oil in my car, should i have an oil change or just top up with correct oil?

I have a 53 plate Vauxhall Meriva. After I got it, the oil light went on. I was driving and pulled over to a petrol station to get some oil. Not knowing much about my car, I asked the assistant what oil I needed. He said 15/40W. After topping it up once again with the same type, I've since found out that the correct oil for the car is, in fact, 5/30W.

The car seems to be running okay. Obviously I'd rather use the correct weight oil. Do you think it would be ok to just top up with 5/30W when the oil light comes on again? or would a complete oil change be a better idea?

  • Can someone list the Incredible Hulk comics in order?

I've become a fan of the Hulk, and have started reading the Essential Incredible Hulk volumes one and two. Starting right at the beginning.

However, after seeing the list of titles that include the Hulk available in the Marvel Digital Comics website I'm very confused as to which ones where done when (Incredible Hulk, Indestructible Hulk, World War Hulk, Hulk Vol 1/2/3 etc etc etc).

Could someone list the different Hulk comic series in order of creation? Just the series' that have Hulk in the title, not his various appearances in Avengers and other comics. Just Hulk comics.

    Cheers

  • how do I dye a costume without dying the hair attached to it?

I have a Chewbacca costume, which consists of a large amount of hair sewn onto a beige cotton suit underneath. In order to make it look more authentic I need to dye the suit a darker brown, while leaving the hair attached to it the original colour. The hair is basically lots of hair extensions, so its not real hair. Is there a dye that will affect cotton, but not discolour hair extensions (whatever they are made from) ?

  • how do I attach 25mm of crylic tube into 40mm of alimunium pipe?

For an art project, I need to secure a 1m length of acrylic tubing with a diameter of 25mm into a 300mm length of aluminium pipe with a diameter of 40mm. The acrylic needs to be centred in the pipe, and only 1/3 of the tube can be inside the pipe. Is there a rubber washer or a plumbing adapter that could be modified for purpose? The tube needs to be 100% secure inside the pipe.

    All help greatly appreciated :)

  • Would a heatsink on a heatsink be any good for my northbridge?

I have an Epox 8RGA+ motherboard. As stated in many reviews, this has a passive heatsink in order to cool the northbridge. Since the northbridge on this mobo is particularly hot, and I've been having overclocking issues and other northbridge-related problems, I'm planning to cool it.

I've found the Akasa chip cooling kit, which basically involves sticking a heatsink and fan onto the northbridge chip by a piece of thermal tape. My question is: since my northbridge already has a heatsink on it, would it cool even more efficiently if I stuck the heatsink/cooler directly onto the existing northbridge heatsink? Or would it be better for my computer if I removed the existing heatsink and replaced it with the Akasa one

My instincts say stick it to the heatsink (it can only fall off!), but wanted others opinions

  • have there been any instances of suicide by radiation poisoning?

I know its very unlikely given the long time it takes to die, coupled with the severe headaches and diarrhea, but has anyone ever used radiation poisoning as a method of suicide?

No interest in doing it myself, just morbid curiosity

  • Shouldn't motherboards bleep without a processor?

I've been given a motherboard (Abit VA-10) and I hooked it up to a power supply (300w) to see if it works. A light on the mobo came on, and the power supply seemed to be working ok. I expected it to bleep at me and give me an audible error code since there was no processor installed. But only silence.

Does a mobo have to have a processor installed to give error codes? Or should it be able to bleep error codes at me regardless of that?

  • what alcohol is best for removing heatsink residue?

I'm trying to find something cheaper than "TIM Cleaner" to remove heatsink residue from processors. Someone suggested white spirit, but I really don't think that sounds like a good idea. Can anyone suggest a (UK) brand or type of cleaner to use?

  • Strange readings from Athlon processor. How can I find which core this is?

I have an Epox 8RGA+ motherboard, running what has always been identified by the bios as an Athlon 1500+. I've been experimenting in overclocking it, and have pushed up the FSB to 118 from 100. With a multiplier of 13, this gives it a rating of 1800+. Not bad. I tried to move the cpu multiplier down, but whatever I select from the bios it always remains at 13.

However, after looking at cpuworld, I've found that the 1500 Athlon XP has an fsb of 133 and a multiplier of 10. Seeing as my chip runs at 13x no matter what I try to select, I can only assume either my mobo is selecting the wrong settings for this processor, or this processor is a different variety of Athlon (maybe a mobile XP?)

Anybody remember any information from a decade ago that may help with this?

  • Should I keep memory & agp frequencies the same when overclocking?

I've got an Athlon XP 1500+ running on an Epox 8RGA+ mobo. I've read that I can get this up to 1700+ with stock cooling. Until recently I've only ever overclocked using FSB/CPU voltage (this obviously changes the agp & PCI frequencies accordingly), but this mobo gives me options to alter the AGP frequency, PCI frequency and memory frequency independently.

I assume that the best thing to do would be to keep the AGP & PCI frequencies at their default, while altering the FSB. Or should I allow the mobo to increase the AGP & PCI frequencies in order for them to keep up with the new speed of the processor?

As always, all help greatly appreciated

  • Would PCI exhaust fan work against case cooling?

I have an Epox 8RGA+ motherboard with an Athlon XP 1500 & 1gig PC2700 with a passively cooled GeForce4 MX440 AGP card. It has only one 80mm case fan and the case is running really rather hot with 3d applications (I don't have exact temps, but you can certainly feel it once you switch it off). I had thought of buying a PCI exhaust fan to stick under the agp slot, that way it could take heat directly off of the heatsink. However being so close to the case fan, and with hot air rising, I wonder if the PCI fan would actually hinder the case fan.

I only have one case fan slot. My other idea was to stick in 80 to 120mm adaptor and get a bigger case fan.

If anyone has any other ideas it would be greatly appreciated

  • 1.5gb of PC2700 or 512b of PC3200 ?

I've got an Epox 8rGA+ motherboard, which has a 1500+ Athlon on it. I have space for 3 DDR modules, and a max of 3gb

My questions is that I have 1 stick of 512mb PC3200 in my collection, or 3 sticks of 512mb PC2700. Would it be better to have 512mb of the faster memory, or am I right in thinking the much greater capacity would yield better results from the OS?

  • In Tron, would the Master Control Program have had root privilidges?

To anyone that knows the Tron film (old one, not new one) and unices. Would the MCP have root?

He says at the beginning that he has had trouble "reappropriating" some files. Assuming this means chroot, then he cant have root because he cant change permissions for files. And he has to hack into other systems, which suggests he's more likely to be a virus than an operating system.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

(And yes, I do have too much time on my hands)

  • Which of these gfx cards would work best for gnu/linux for these games?

    I'm using Linux Mint 9. P4 1.5ghz Willamette core. 1gb ram.

At the moment I have a Radeon 9600 pro in an AGP 4x slot. However I'm lead to believe that this can only use open source drivers (which I am using). Someone has given me a Geforce 5200 PCI card and a GeForce MX4000 AGP card. Would either of these two (since they're made by Nvidia, so I can use the proprietary drivers) up my gfx performance?

I know they're both a downgrade from the 9600 pro, but I thought maybe the performance enhancement of the proprietary drivers may balace it.

The games I'll be playing are Linux ports of Quake 3 and UT2003. And Star Wars Republic Commando and Medal Of Honour: Allied Assault under Wine.

    All thoughts greatly appreciated :)

  • How do I get my linux partition to overwrite xp partition and take over whole hd?

I have Kubuntu 10.04 and XP sharing an 80gb hd. Now that I've found the Linux installer for Quake 3, my dependence on XP has come to an end. How do I change the hd to one big 80gb Kubuntu partition instead of 40gb XP/40gb Kubuntu ?

Although I can use the cli, I'm not confident with it, so if there's a gui method it would be appreciated. If not, cli is grand :)

    All help greatly appreciated

  • how long do baby elephants stay small for?

I hope to be taking my fiancee to a zoo in november. She likes the elephants, and the zoo had a baby elephant born in July. I know she thinks baby elephants are so cute. But how much will the baby elephant have grown by November? Will it still be small and cute and make her go "ahhhh", or will it pretty much be as big as the rest?

I don't want to big up the fact that there's a baby elephant there if it isn't a baby :)

  • How do I update a package in Kubuntu from the proposed repository?

I'm trying to update Ktorrent from 3.3.2 to 4.0.2. I'm not sure if this version is in the proposed repository, but at the moment I can't even find the address of the next proposed repository to find out.

Could someone tell me the deb address of this repository so I can investigate? Looked all over the ubuntu and kubuntu wesbites and can't find it. I know its there, I've seen it before. But can't find it for the life of me.

    Cheers

  • How do I schedule a task with a linux-based OS?

I want my PC to power up at 2am, open up avidemux and start encoding some videos. Is this even possible? I mean it'd involve telling avidemux to open a particuilar video file, start encoding etc..

Or I guess I could use ffmpeg. I've encoded used the command line before.

So how do I get my Xubuntu 9.10 install to power up at a designated time and run commands?

  • PC133 SDRAM, how is server different to desktop?

I've got a PC that runs PC133. Looking for upgrades, and I'm finding lots of PC133 server memory on ebay. This type of memory looks slightly different to desktop memory, slightly taller.

Is all PC133 the same? Will server memory run on my PC or do I have to buy desktop only?

Any posts telling me to get a new computer will be terminated with extreme prejudice
