Convert mg/L into ppm.?

I have 5.6 mg/L of Fe in a solution with a density of 2000 g/L. I need the answer in ppm. Is it as simple as converting 2000 g into 2,000,000 mg and dividing 5.6 by 2,000,000? A little shove in the right direction would be great.

In general, ppm = mg/litre. OR mg per kg. ( the latter is usually used when dealing with solids, not liquids)

you have 5.6mg/litre which is numerically equivalent to 5.6ppm in volume terms

In mass terms you have 5.6mg / 2kg or 2.8mg /kg which in mass terms is 2.8ppm.
