I was looking at another student's solution from another class for a cantilevered beam, one support, with a distributed load and the reactions were not included. Is this right?

In transportation eng., how do you find the length of a vertical curve if you're given two stations, 100 ft apart, and their elevations and nothing else?

I've heard I can get one for very cheap...$1. It would obviously be an older version, but that's ok, as long as it's 2008 or newer.

I need to build an elevated pad to support up to 6,000 lb. The material would be moved from a freight elevator into the building on a pallet jack. I would be using 5 ply, 3/4" plywood class 1 with a capacity of 1,600 psf when supported at 8" c/c.

The jack has 4 wheels; 6000 lb./4 = 1,500 lb. per wheel. This is within the limits of a single sheet of plywood. Kind of...I'm leaving out the psf or psi. However, if I take the actual contact area of the wheels, approx. 2 sq. in. each, I get 1,500 lb/2 in^2 = 750 psi. Way more than the 11.11 psi I figured from the allowable 1,600 psf.

Am I missing something or what? Thanks for any help.

Which type of flow is better for removing sediment from a fluid, plug flow or completely mixed flow?

I have 5.6 mg/L of Fe in a solution with a density of 2000 g/L. I need the answer in ppm. Is it as simple as converting 2000 g into 2,000,000 mg and dividing 5.6 by 2,000,000? A little shove in the right direction would be great.

How can I check to see if a light fixture has gone bad? I've replaced the light bulb but still no light. I have two lights that have suddenly stopped working.

Well, not always. Most of the time you can hear the fan come on. Sometimes however, I'll notice the lights flicker but I won't hear the fan. A few minutes later, I'll smell a burning plastic smell...so I run to the thermostat and shut off everything. .

I turn the fan control to "on" and it works; then I turn the heat back on and feel warm air. I then turn the fan control back to "auto" and everything seems to work normally for about 24 hrs. when it Starts again and I go through the above steps. This has happened twice since Thursday afternoon.

Any ideas? ...a faulty fan switch...some relay between the heating element and the fan... no wires or components feel hot or appear to have melted.

E = 30,000 lbs/in^2 (psi)

Using the buckling formula P=[3.14^2 x E x I]/ L^2

I get [(3.14)^2(30000)(0.0001887)]8^2

which is 0.87299 lbs.

This can't be a buckling load. It should be something around 1200 lbs. according to the instructor.

The book's, the instructor's and my answer are all different. What gives? Rounding error? All range from 420nm to 484nm.

I think I understand the proceedure, but what do I do with y(0) = 2? So the process as I understand it:

L(y') + L(y) + L(2) = L(e^4t)

sY(s) + Y(s) + (1/s) = 1/(s-a) is this correct?
