Why doesn't my sound card work?

I am using Linux and, at first, I couldn't get sound to come out of my speakers although it would work with headphones (I know, it's strange). I ended up finding that just updating the ALSA driver fixed my problem. However, the next day, my sound card isn't even showing up at all. In the sound preferences and in GNOME ALSA mixer, the driver isn't showing up. Does anyone know how I can fix this and what the possible reason is for it to stop working?

(By the way, I know it's not the sound card going bad because my computer is Dual booted and it works fine in Windows)

Update:

@Kevin- Did you not even read the last sentence I wrote?

Update 2:

@CorvetteFan- I realize that, but how can I fix it?

Update 3:

@Frostfirst- Thanks and I'm sure that would work for Windows but I'm having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04. Do you know any way I could get it to work on Linux?

    Try this.

First shutdown, remove the sound card. Reboot, remove the drivers via Device manager. Reboot again, install the drivers from the driver CD. Shutdown, replace the card, reboot, and windows, will load the drivers you just installed.

If you do not have the CD, go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers.
