From a parents perspective probably something reliable and cheap on gas

But realistically from a new drivers perspective get something you love whether that be power, looks, or maybe you want something good on gas.

Either way I recommend a reliable car even though it might not be the nicest. Sure skylines are sick but expensive and tedious to maintain. :/

    Hope I helped, cheers.

I would say something smaller, and if the beginner is going to college, then your best bet is some sort of hatchback!

I personally drive a Honda Fit (2009 model) and I love it to death. It has a great crash rating, it's roomy, it's sporty, has great visibility, seats 5, has 10 cup-holders, you can fold the back seats down to have a flat surface (great for lugging things to college!!) and is an absolutely breeze to drive. It's also got an iPod hook up which makes it really great for younger drivers who are attached to their music. For anyone though, the Honda Fit has been awesome. I also think Honda Civics are great cars (new or old), or a Ford Taurus/Focus are good cars for first time drivers! A Ford Focus was my first car and it was a lot of fun as well :)

PS. I'm a really good driver and can get 40 mpg on the highway in my Fit!! And usually around 30 city :)

    Hey Dancin Babe,

There are a lot of good cars for new drivers. I would look for something with 4 doors for cheaper insurance...insurance for new drivers can be quite expensive because you start off with a lower experience rating and a higher risk rating. Next, you should look for something that has a 4 cylinder engine for economy. There are several imports that will suit your style and taste. Honda Civic, Kia Rio, Mazda 323, and so on. The domestics that would be good first cars would be cars like the Buick Regal, Buick Century, Saturn Ion, Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire and so on. There are so many good cars to have for your first car, it's hard to decide based on someone else's advice. What I would recommend you do is simply go around to the car lots and look at a bunch of different cars, test drive them and chose the one you like the most based on the way the car handles, runs and drives. It's very rare that when I go looking for a new car that I chose the first one I look at...a car is an extension of yourself and your personality, look around and find the one that fits you.

    Good luck Babe!

Something small in my opinion. Kia Rio is probably a good choice. Affordable for one. Also it's easy to back up, parallel park and easy to park in a normal parking lot. Also smaller cars are good on gas.

Monster truck, preferably the big foot or grave digger.
