Why is my Verizon DSL so slow with my Linksys WRT320N attached?

I have used Verizon DSL for years now, and always used Linksys routers for wireless. In my house I have a Verizon modem (Westell 6100F) and a Linksys WRT320N router.

I have noticed horrible speeds since I got the WRT320N. Is there a way to fix this? Settings? Do the units get too hot?

Any help is appreciated.

Update:

The DSL modem is in bridge mode, and is set up properly, according to Verizon.

I do also get random disconnects, which is very frustrating. I lose internet, not network connectivity.

I would try to take the modem of bridge mode so you can see if its an issue on the connection, when you loose the connection if you see the dsl blinking then its a problem with some physical setup just make sure you have the modem connected without a filter and all of your phones have filter and if you see the dsl solid but the internet light going off or red then that would mean a problem on the server or a problem with the modem, you need to take it off bridge mode otherwise the internet light on the modem is always going to be off, if you do end up calling verizon try to do it when you are having the problem otherwise they might not be able to see anything wrong.
