Why didn't the New York Giants and the New york Jets change their names to "New Jersey"?

For over 30 years the Jets and the Giants of the National Football League have been playing their homes games in NJ and yet they never changed their names to New Jersey Jets and Giants. Why?

Why haven't the Pistons changed their name to the Auburn Hills Pistons? Why haven't the Cowboys changed their name to the Irving Cowboys?

It's very common for teams to build their stadiums outside of their city limits, and given the density and high cost of Manhattan real estate it makes more sense for the Jets and Giants than for most NFL teams.

Pretty simple this one, the New York in the name is because they represent the New York Metropolitan Area, not the state of New York, the reason why the teams play in new jersey is that when Giants Stadium was originally build the other proposed location was next to Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, but as the distance from Times Square was the same to these two locations they elected to build in New Jersey because the soil is cheaper.

Because the New York in their name is for New York City not the state. A lot of teams play in a suburb.

Both teams originally played in NY before moving across the bridge. Even though both states share the financial burden New York has the most of responsibility.

new york city hogs everything. they took the nets (they can have them), they put the devils as part of 'new york' too. they arent even called the new york devils! the jets practice in my home town and the giants did too around 15 years ago (i live in new jersey). plus, a lot of sports teams dont even play in their actual city.

Yeah, right. "New Jersey" Jets/Giants is really going to draw large crowd's at games. Sure. Both club managements know exactly what they're doing.
