Do you think i have a blown head gasket?

Hi i have an 05 dodge Grand Caravan with 79000 and today the heat gauge went up to the 3/4 mark on the gauge but it did'nt boil over.

I checked the water in the radiator and it was down 1 gallon but no signs of any leak and just a hint of an odor like an old water hose comeing through the vents.

I'm going to have the pressure tested but in the even i do have a blown head gasket i might try this additive Steel Seal and i wander if this stuff will do the repair. Has anyone ever used this stuff or know anyone who has tried it.

When the engine is cold, open the radiator cap. Look for floating oil drops. With the engine warmed up look for leaks around the cylinder heads. If the warm engine is discharging greasy greenish drops out the tailpipe, you might have a problem. It's not odd for those engines to pop a head. My 98 Voyager did it at around the same miles as yours.

All I think you realy gotta do is fill it up with water. The car got hot but didn't over heat. Check the oil if there is water in the oil then you have something to worry about. As for things like steel seal I have heard they have a tendency to block up the heater core so then you need to replace the head gaskette and the heater core.

The only fix for a blown head gasket is to replace it. DO NOT use any sealers in your engine. If it works at all, it will only be temporary. The sealers WILL stop up the entire cooling system and cost you $$$$ more than the proper repair.

I'm not sure that your head gasket is blown. It doesn't quite sound like it.

The only fix for a blown head gasket is replacing it. I don't see that stuff working very well and that is quite alot of money for a 'quick fix'.
