For example, the music of the Ramones is very simple and vary little from song to song, but they are still popular because they were significant in the creation of punk rock.

Punk bands in general, because of the relative simplicity of the music.
The Sex Pistols were extremely iconic, yet Sid Vicious couldn't play his bass.

Nirvana. Kurt was medicore on guitar, Dave Grohl is medicore on drums - I used him because he was the longest running Nirvana drummer.
They are a massively important band for today's rock.

AC/DC, Cliff Williams is the worst bassist ever and Phil Rudd sucks at drumming. Oh, and their guitar tabs are all so similar
