Why are people so afraid of government-run health care...?

...when the VA, which is the only completely government-run health care in the nation, is the highest rated of all health insurance/health care programs in the US?

My favorite complaint is "waiting list" as if America doesn't have rationed health-care right now.

Our health-care is rationed based on ability to pay, there's no waiting list because the 50,000,000 that don't have coverage don't take up any spots on the queue, they just die or suffer their ailments.

There isn't a developed country on earth where there exist any sizable support from any subset of the population for a change to an American style health-care system.

    Nobody would ever want it.

But Americans don't really want it either. Democrats were elected on the promise to reform health-care, the public option was overwhelmingly popular as an alternative to forced private insurance. The problem is the democrats in congress blew it with a bill that doesn't really address the core issues with American health-care and does nothing to make it more affordable. It was really just a setback on a path to any real reform.

Because most Americans don't know their **** from their elbow. We had a shot at a public option which would have delivered the same kind of healthcare to all Americans at real affordable prices. But no. Republicans would have none of that. It has to be "free market" driven. They are more concerned about the health insurance industry and their profits that eventually end up in their own campaign coffers.

Deep down in that so-called pledge of theirs is language about privatizing the VA administration along with Social Security and Medicare. Remember that in November!

Because like everything else run by the American government, it will be crap.

We have government-run health care in Australia and can do it properly; no-one complains. But in America, you don't know how to run any government services (heck you can't even fight a war properly), so of course you're afraid of government-run health care.

For one thing it's the cost and quality. We aren't going to get the VA version.

With all the b!tching I hear about the VA every day from customers, friends, acquaintances and total strangers, I'd say you'd better come up with a stronger example.
