Question about Engineering?

Can somebody please explain me the different kinds of engineering and what they do? I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound so ignorant. I'm in 9th grade and I'm thinking about my college course and I realize that I want to invent robots and stuff.

Im not sure where you live or what schools you want to go into, but Im in second year engineering in Ontario Canada and I can tell you a little bit about the options we have here.

    There are:

    Civil

    Mechanical

    Chemical/green process

    Electrical

    Computer software/computer hardware.

Civil is about structures like skyscrapers, bridges, roads, and dams. They also learn about environmental cleanup.

Mechanical has to do with machines and moving structures.

chemical has to do with designing chemical systems for use in processing plants or in making medications.

Electrical is probably the broadest, dealing with all the different ways electricity is used by society, from the power lines to the wiring in your house to the generators that make electricity.

Computer engineering is just that, designing all the parts of a computer.

There are also a few other areas that our school doesn't offer, like aerospace engineering and wind/fluids engineering.

For you, if you want to build robots, you will probably be interested in either mechanical or electrical engineering. The mechanical engineering has more to do with building it, and the electrical engineers are the ones that hook up the power and make it work.

    Hope this helps!

If u want to invent robot, mechanical engineering suit u the best. Mech.eng involves machines, engine...etc most of the object that are moving, unlike civil engineer, who deal with object that aren't moving.

Mechanical Engineering is the best. Go into it.
