Immigrants to Italy in 1968?

Hello, my great-aunt went to Italy in 1968 and stayed there, I wonder whether I have some chance to find her, or her children ? I just dont know where to look, where to apply, cannot use phone directory, because I know only her maiden name. Thank you for any information.

This is a difficult quest... Bear in mind, however, that in Italy women keep their maiden name in all official documents/ID even after they are married, so this should make your search a bit easier.

It would be easier if you knew at least the region she moved to, just to have a place to start. Do an internet search and look on www.Paginebianche.it, try facebook...

If you know where in Italy she went, like an old address, you should be able to trace her at the Comuna of the town she was in (Every town has a Comuna). They would keep records of everyone living in that town and forwarding addresses. Italians are great at paperwork if nothing else!

If she married, she would be able to change her surname here. Italians don't but it can be done - I did it when I married.
