Sounds like something Ed Gein might have done.

Regardless of whether it's legal or not it won't work. You would need to have the skin removed and perhaps freeze dried but simply drying the skin will result in the tatoos becoming unrecognizable. Also, not sure on how long you plan on living but have you seen what happens to tats on older guys? They usually wind up looking like dark black bruises.

You'd have to have the skin tanned, like leather.

Ask a Nazi how to do it.

It was commonly believed for a time that prominent Nazis, such as Ilsa Koch, had commissioned the creation of items from the skin of victims of the Holocaust, including books and lampshades.

Anthropodermic bibliopegy is the practice of binding books in human skin. Though uncommon in modern times, the technique dates back to at least the 17th century.

depends on your states laws. The disposal of organs for donation or educational purposes has usually been honored by most states when clear documentation exists and method requested is legal. Cremation and having ash mixed with paint to go on cycle has been done, disposal of ash in some parks not allowed , other times it is. Donating body parts for artistic reasons- New York state had a question about body parts of AIDS victims being displayed- judge ruled as long as parts are sealed to prevent any possible transmission it was OK. Your request may be honored if a seal coat is applied. Heirloom body parts as in hair locks were a old custom, one old christian Hussite fighter had his skin made into drum so the army could follow him into battle even after death- won a couple battles. A few funeral homes have followed directions to remove heads after services to preserve for families, a few hands also, a couple testicles saved by one woman after husband died. Jewish funeral orthodox customs don't approve of removing parts before burial. I've heard of couple Outlaw and Marine tattoos being removed before burial following instructions of deceased, friend worked in cemetery service in Chicago area years back and they had some instructions to save a few odd bits and pieces before burial or cremation, state just said basically pickle or disinfect, seal container of parts before giving them to deceased family or medical school. Tatoos and hands sometimes removed by coroners in unidentified body situations for later tracing- Texas and Kentucky had a little police database of tatoos to be checked, analized on some unknowns noted last year, relatives had gotten later identified skin in a few cases. .

Great idea and one I have thought of too. Start researching now and start taking care of the tattoos!!!

Sunscreen, lotion all that! The skin will darken but the tat will be preserved. It was common in Japan (and still might be) in fact I have seen the entire "suit" of tattoos preserved. (in human form) imagine that beautiful Japanese art getting buried.. Lost forever. Now you can't get your feelings hurt if the kids don't want them, but I for one fully support your idea.

take a few pictures or get a portrait of the tats. framing your actual flesh is gross and reminiscent of some cannibal activities.

It is against the law. Why would your kids want to keep that, it's disgusting.

Sorry, Sarge, but I think that's pretty gross.
