LED LCD TV or LED TV?

All LED TVs are LCD TVs. Normal LCD tvs use florescent back lighting to light the pixels while LED tvs use LED back lighting to light the pixels.

There are two kinds of LED tvs out right now. Edge lighting and local dimming.

Edge lighting LEDs are the super thin ones, but Local dimming has better contrast ratios and are just better overall.

I don't want to go into specifics on why, but that should answer your question.

Basically, the technology of LCD to LED is quite similar, except for the type of backlighting. An LED HDTV has a poor side to side viewing angle, and the same slow response as any LCD TV. Yes, LED's are thin, but I wouldn't buy one just for that.!! If you are going for 40 inches or so...get Plasma.!! Great viewing angle, no blurr or lag on fast moving objects, and excellent blacks and colors. Go to a store and walk back and forth in front of an LCD or LED TV..You will see a change in brightness, color, etc. when you walk off to the side. Now try that with a plasma!!
