a smaller car is lighter which means there is less weight to push you when you lock your brakes up so you will stop in a shorter distance. a larger car is heavier but might give better traction it the snow. i would rather a small front wheel drive car with snow tires in the winter. they handle so much better. if your car has too much power the wheels will spin easier (not good) unless you like to fool around it the snow

Its safest to drive the car with a better crash rating. Not every big car is safe and not every small car is unsafe. However if you drive a Smart car into a 1 ton truck you wont win so use a little common sense.

Get a car that is reliable well maintained.You need to drive in harsh conditions,drive very carefully for whatever conditions are present.To be safe if they are beyond safe ,don't.

A larger car, preferably with AWD.
When I drove a car, I always put sand bags in the back for weight.
