Was I screwed over or is this fair?
So things were looking up for my family. We welcomed our first child into the world and I started my work at a brand new job. Things were really great, but we were struggling financially, so we applied for food stamps. We were approved for $450 dollars/month. It was a total blessing! We ate great healthy home-cooked meals every night. Then to make thing better, i got a $1/hour raise! I reported my new income to DSHS like they told me I should. They than told me that my extra 160/month made me completely ineligible to receive benefits anymore. Now we skip meals... ugh.

Excuse me!?! I work, and have worked my *** off since I was 19. Can you work 20 hours a day 7 days a week for 5 months at a time? I used to be a Bering Sea fisherman and still would be if not for my daughter I care so much for, dont give me the "work like the rest of us" bull.
I am raising a child, working full time, and completing college all at the same time. You need to realize that not every person is a leach. I pay for my college myself, in full, at the start of each quarter. Dont talk to me about work like you are better than me.

Man that's rough. Yeah sadly, they do that to a lot of people. Man It's sad how many a**holes are on answers all of the sudden. It's sad how little compassion people feel these days.
{{There are so many people out there abusing the system, relying on the government to send them money so they don't have to work. Some of these people live better than my family ever has.}} And these jerks are complaining about someone using the system correctly and trying to survive. As a Christian I am supposed to pray for these people, but man I hope that when life kicks THEM in the butt, someone kicks them while they're down like they did to you. Okay now that I'm done ranting about those infinitesimal pieces of trash, back to your question. No man it's definitely not fair, but that's our government for ya. In their eyes $1/hr more is a lot. You might try talking to your caseworker, it's possible if unlikely that maybe there's something they can/will do to help. Other than that I can only suggest trying to find a new job. If you can't find one that pays well enough for you to survive, find one that pays $1/hr less than you make now. Normally I wouldn't suggest that, but noone should have to skip meals. If that's what it takes to survive then do it. Hope this helps man. Good luck and God bless ^^

The whole system is insane. An extra $160 a month isnt going to help you eat. Unfortunately thats just how the system works. Before anyone jumps on me, I make $130,000 a year, so I'm not on welfare. I still think the system is wrong,

Sounds fair to me.
it is a leg up, not a permanent subsidy just because you have children.
Don't you feel a bit more pride now that you aren't getting welfare?

I feel for you, but if that is the law -- as much as I hate to say it -- it's "fair." Morally, you were screwed, but not legally.

The taxpayers were screwed over, not you.
