The shortest distance in which a car traveling with 84 km/hr can stop is 88 m. The shortest stopping distance occurs when the driver uses anti-lock brakes, which means that the car brakes without skidding.

X = 0.5 * A * T * T
average speed 42 KM / hr = 42000 m/hr
so X = 88 = 44000 * T
so T = 88/42000 in HOURS !! ( Mult by 3600 sec / hr for seconds)
=7.54 seconds
88 / ( .5 * 7/.54 * 7.54) = A in m / sec / sec

vo = 84 km/hr = 84 * 1000/3600 m/s = 23.33 m/s
v = 0
d = 88 m
v^2 = vo^2 + 2 * a * d
0^2 = (23.33)^2 + 2 * a * 88
a = -(23.33)^2/(2*88)
a = -3.1 m/s^2
Magnitude of a = 3.1 m/s^2
Ans: 3.1 m/s^2
