What week of your pregnancy by ultrasound would the doctor notice a defect or ds with ur baby?

I know my chances are completely at none.. but the test I had done is going to be in my head until I see my little girl myself! I got the blood test done at 18 weeks and had to get an ultrasound at 20 weeks to check the baby if there was any signs of having down syndromes. I know there are numerous false positives, and my chances were only .089%, but I can't help it as a mother to be concerned. There were no markings found on the ultrasound so I passed on the amnio. Please no smart remarks because I know it's not likely and NO I'm not stressing out so much it's just a concern in the back of my head because it's my first baby!

So I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a point in the pregnancy where the doctor would notice either a defect or a disease with your baby while they were still in you through the ultrasound. I am at 34 weeks 2 days, and my last ultrasound I had was at 30 weeks where my little girl looked pretty developed. He hadn't said anything was wrong with her.. this is just a curious question to help put me at ease a little bit more! If anyone has personal experience, or a friend that this happened too, please let me know! I am very interested in hearing similar stories and your answers to know when I can really stop worrying about my little girl. It won't change anything, just want to be prepared! :) THANK YOU

I am a mom to 2 year old twins - at the 20 week ultrasound, our technician and doctor noticed something with our daughters heart. They referred us to a cardiologist and we had a fetal echocardiogram which is a really indepth ultrasound of the heart. At 26 weeks, we had the fetal echo done and she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. We had no risk factors - it is just one of those things, the heart develops in the first trimester and her's did not develop perfectly. She does not have DS.

The twins were born at 37 weeks, our daughter had a minor procedure at a day old and open heart surgery at just 3 weeks prior to her 2nd birthday. She is doing very well, hitting all her milestones and her prognosis is very good to live a long and normal life.

We are thankful that the technology was available to diagnose her early so we could be prepared. But the reality is that not all defects are found so early. My personal experience and activism is in the area of congenital heart defects. Some do not get diagnosed until after birth. I am not trying to scare you - just answering your question on our experience.

Welcome to parenthood - you never stop worrying - now you are worrying about DS and birth defects . . . and when your perfect little one is born, you will worry about whether they are hitting their milestones, whether they are driving safe at age 16 etc . . . .You will never stop worrying about your little girl!

    Good luck and congrats!

The first thing you need to do is stop worrying. I was worried with my first, second and third. Worrying only increases the stress on you and the baby. I work with children who have disabilities and their different abilities are what make them amazing. Your baby is most likely healthy and happy. So quit worrying and enjoy your great expectations.

Chances are there is nothing that is developing differently than a perfect little bundle of joy. Good luck.

Your in the all clear, I had an ultrasound at 11 Weeks to check for downs, so they can see any defects at this stage so if your baby looked fine on your last ultrasound then the baby is fine.
