How come cops waste their time on stupid things?
There are assaults, murders, fights, etc.... to attend to but they choose take their time on stupid things like speeding tickets and underage drinking. O yeah and coming up with every possible charge they can when people cross them the wrong way. Like the people at the University of Wisconsin who hid when the cops came to their party and got fined 86 thousand dollars between 3 ppl. Come on! Why waste your time on such stupid things?
I'm not the kids from UW I just think it is really dumb!

They don't "Choose to waste their time." Traffic enforcement is an important part of police work. So is enforcing underage drinking laws. Believe it or not, the police don't fail to respond to assaults because they are tied up writing tickets or citing underage drinkers. I have been a police officer since the early 70s. I know some suburban communities near me that have never had a Homicide since I have been on the job. When I was a Homicide Detective, I met many, many officers from towns that had NEVER had a Homicide.
Besides, it is not a patrol offciers job to solve crimes. It is their job to patrol, and prevent crime, respond to crime reports and enforce traffic and quality of life/order maintenance offenses.
However, traffic enforcement and "quality of life" enforcement issues are not things that only small, safe towns worry about. NYPD has a large and aggressive Highway Patrol unit. And precinct level of "quality of life" crimes arrests were a hallmark of the city's rebirth in the last ten years.
You see, in my career, I have arrested people for every imaginable crime from Library Theft to Murder. And when I was in patrol, i wrote lots of tickets, (and probably prevented a lot of accidents as well as caught lots of wanted bad guys). I have never seen one type of enforcement unreasonably encroach on another type.
I always used to laugh when people would ask, "Why aren't you out catching murderers?" when I would stop them for a traffic violation. I would tell them instead that I was preventing a Murder, because if they kept driving like that, they would kill someone.

Speeding tickets and underage drinking are not stupid things for police to spend time on. Both of these things - especially when done together - kill thousands of people every year. In fact, speeding is a major factor in 1/3 of all traffic fatalities. I do agree that police have some less important jobs to do at times, but I certainly wouldn't count these among them. From your bitterness on the issue, I assume you have been busted for one or both!
As for the UW kids, that's what they get for supplying 200+ underage kids with alcohol. That's a lot of fines to pay for people you don't know very well. Gee, I hope the temporary popularity was worth it.

Because the police do not have a choice about what calls or complaints that they respond to. If someone complains about a party the police cannot say "oh I am not going there because I am going to go look for a murder". Its the law that the police have to respond to crimes that are reported.
The police in Wisconsin did not make the fine. The legislature did. You should be whining to them about it.

in case you noted as the widespread non-emergency quantity, and defined the placement wisely and actually, then you definately did no longer something stupid. If the police branch relatively believed it became a minor incident, then the dispatcher could have advised you to easily come to the station and fill out a police checklist. that's interior the dep.'s discretion to deliver an officer out to take a checklist. of course, the undeniable fact that an officer became despatched potential that the dep. did no longer have faith it became a waste of time. additionally, I heavily doubt that the officer pronounced all that for the time of your mom.

Because it is Stupid People that continually waste our Taxpayers money for our Police Officers to check out crap that is not necessary. Our Police are doing their job when they have to take time for Stupid Childish Pranks. Your attitude might change as you get older.

There job is to support the law, whatever the law may be. They can't walk along and say , " Oh that's minor in my eyes. I'll just leave it. I want an exciting assault to handle."

So you think that a person should be able to drive at any speed??? Or maybe the police should call you & ask what laws should be enforced???

Because voters keep electing people who make more and more laws to the point that damn near everything is illegal in some way. The cops end up pretty busy trying to enforce all those laws.
