Would lowering the minimum wage assist or hinder employment numbers?

I have heard the argument that a low minimum wage would hurt jobs because of the poverty line. These people must not understand that a lot of people work that are not necessarily the "bread winners" of their families. These including teens and others that would gladly have a job than no job at all. I am in favor of lowering the minimum wage to create jobs. Agree? or prove me wrong...

I don't know if you know anything about suply and demand charts, but an increase in minimum wage can easily be proven to hinder employment. Raising minimum wage means that the companys demand for labor will decrease. (simple demand laws). The amount of people who want to work exceed the amount of people companies want to employ, causing a surplus, or better known as a raise in unemployment.

My family owns a big ambulance company and even decreasing the price of gas one penny will help thousands of dollars. So YES. "just that extra dollar" as you say adds up and is of much importance to a successful business . You are just assuming things that are not true. If you were to take any kind of economics class, you would know better.

if only economists could run the country, we would be much better off.

The minimum wage is $7.25 per hr. If you work 8hrs a day for a 6 day workweek, you will earn $1,392 a month or $16,704 a year. It is above the poverty threshold of $11,161. Considering the highest unemployment rate today of 9.6%, the government should consider lowing the minimum wage to gain more employment. I do agree with you. But I doubt that the politics is possible.Based on the GOP, creating more jobs by tax cut for the rich is easier than lowering the minimum wage rate.

Minimum wage promotes unemployment and the hiring of illegal labor. It also increases the cost of goods and services.

It's simple, what is rolling pizza dough or raking leaves worth? But then the law steps in and demands we pay at a certain level. If that pay is more than the task commands or beyond what the employer can afford to pay the work either goes undone (business closes) or the employer elects to do the task them self or hire illegal labor. We can track this, each time government raises the minimum wage there's a cost of living and unemployment spike to follow shortly. Sorry, I can't prove you wrong.

The fallacy is that lowering minimum wage will lead to more jobs. It is usually in retail or in the food industry that you find minimum wage jobs. Saving a couple of dollars per hour is not enough incentive for an owner to hire someone else. There has to be a reason why another employee is needed.

It could also lead to pay cuts for those who are being paid right at the minimum wage level. This will reduce the availability of consumer spending.

What may sound good for an individual employer may be bad for the entire economy.

The Moronic Minimum Wage is a part of Socialism and it has no place in our society. It needs to be gotten rid of.

Of course, the moronic idiots will think this only means that people will get paid less.

I hereby offer a $500 reward to anyone who can state why government should have a right to interfere into a private contract between consenting adults to do legal work, or to ruin apprenticeship opportunities under a mutual arrangement.

Most "minimum wage" proponents are probably too stupid to even know what I'm talking about.

    1. When you set a price floor above the clearing price, you will create a surplus (aka unemployment). It doesn't matter what your intentions are.

    2. The average household income of those earning the minimum wage is over $50,000.
