what happens when my digital camera has no manufacture warranty?

I am buying a camera on Ebay with a very good deal... $195 for a Panasonic FZ35. Since it is open box item (it looks like new), there is no warranty.... Is it a big risk to have this camera since this camera was drop-shipped from a wholesaler? If I decide to keep the camera without the manufacturer warranty, will I still be able to have the camera fixed if anything wrong later? Can I do that even if I have to pay out of pocket, or I have to dump the camera then? Thanks for your answer. TH

You're better off buying a refurbished camera rather than a secondhand one as refurbished camera are still under warranty and are like new (but cost a hell of a lot less than at retail).

Go to a manufacturers website and have a look around. The Fujifilm website is great for refurbished cameras and they all have a one year warranty (with an option for up to 4 years).

Yes you are right. If something goes wrong with the camera, you can bring it to the Panasonic service center and they will accept it. Without the warranty, you "may" have to pay for service and parts. If the service center is honest and efficient enough, they will know if the camera is still under warranty from their centralized records and should inform you that service is free. You can't insist on it though. It's really up to them. Parts, if ever used, will have to be paid still.

With no warranty there's always a risk. I never buy used because I don't know where the camera's been - get my meaning?

Yes you'll have to pay for repairs if needed. Sure you can get it fixed, there's plenty of pros around eager to take your cash.
