Mice in house due to nearby demolition?

A mobile home across the street from my house was condemned by the Board of Health back in May. This past week they striiped off the siding and took out the windows. Today they demolished the trailer. Since they started ripping stuff down, I have had mice in my house! I called the BOH, they said that the 2 things were probably not related, since it is fall in New England and that's what happens. In any event, they told me to contact the building department. I left messages, but no one has returned my calls. Is there any way I can get the town or the home owner to pay for an exterminator?

An exterminator actually won't help much, mice are presently relocating, many just passing through (unless you decide to feed them). They will get rid of these, but more will be there next week.

You need to pay for this yourself, no one is going to be paying your bills.

First, you need to figure out how the mice are entering your house. Check all outside cracks. Check all plumbing to make sure there are no small spaces between the wall and the pipes that the mice can crawl through. Use steel wool to close the holes or spaces. Then buy some adhesive strip traps to catch the ones that are already in your house.

Put Bounce dryer sheets in your drawers and other areas where the mice might get into. Someone I know swears by Bounce dryer sheets (it has to be Bounce, no other brand works).

    Good luck

There is not much you can do to force them to pay for anything the demo caused in the surrounding area. You are going to have to pay for the exterminator. T

The exterminator can put bait out & close up all points of entry. Just putting traps or poison out as others suggested will not do the trick. You have to kill the ones that have gotten in & close up any holes to stop more from coming in. If you only do one of the 2 then it will not stop the infestation.

You might be able to get the homeowner to pay, but you would have to prove that the events were related, which is going to be very challenging. And time consuming. Get a cat or poison them, mice are not that tough to get rid of.

I seriously doubt that someone else is going to pay your extermination costs.

yes, it's related. But YOU!!! are responsible for the mice in your house.
