How can I set limits with World of Warcraft?

I am an unemployed 29 year old female who is fairly addicted to world of warcraft. I lost my job last December and I live in the third poorest city in the country so jobs are not exactly plentiful. I lost my boyfriend in April and a friend suggested I play wow as a way to distract myself from all the things that were going wrong in my life. At first wow was great and gave me something to do each day to feel like I was accomplishing something. But now I feel like it has taken over my life. On a typical day I will play wow for 10 to 18 hours with short breaks for food. I have 3 level 80s and was raiding for four to six hours a night. I went to a craft fair recently for the weekend and being out with real people made me realize how much of my life has passed me by. So I simply haven't logged back in since returning 5 days ago. But now I am starting to be bored and lonely. Is there a way I can fill these hours without sitting here wanting to log on just to talk to other people? I guess the thing that hit the hardest was that no one from my guild called or e-mailed me when I simply didn't come back. It made me realize that these people might care but not very much. And I also realize that starting to see my addiction to wow much more clearly is a step in the right direction. But what now? I am trying to start my own business creating handcrafted jewelry and I try to keep that as a focus but after 6 to 8 hours of stringing beads and a few hours of cleaning or reading and I get pretty bored. I do not desire to get a pet at this time either.

Alright let's get this correct first off. You were very bored and then you played wow and you were not bored and now your bored again and your calling that addiction? No you have a need to be entertained, So does everyone from a developed world. If you have a Business now you just have to take care of Business same way everyone does. Get your work done then go for entertainment. it's not hard. I quit Wow in July when SC2 came out and was fine till SC2 stopped fulfilling my day. I've gone back to wow on and off now but mostly i have learned what most lazy americans know is that watching TV is Pretty entertaining. and having a 40in Flat screen on my computer is pretty nice to go around and watch everything on Hulu.com and catch up on all the series of Stargate/Heros/V/Caprica/battlestar/ etc etc..

No matter what you do in life if it's fun, It will always be in competition for your work time. That's just how it goes. You want to have more time for work? Be bored during your off time and you'll want to work more :)
