Christians : What did the Church teach you? about devil?
Both the terms satan and devil are used in the NT indiscriminately. What are they really? Why one is preferred over the other in ascribing certain events and behavior?

The original name of the angel who became Satan is unknown. The terms “Satan” and “Devil” mean “Resister” and “Slanderer.”
So in an attempt to claim worship of himself, Satan (the Devil), did both of these things; resisted the spirit of God, and by his deception, slandered God's name.
The extent of Satan’s evil influence is revealed at 1 John 5:19, which states: “The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.”

The devil and satan are the same spiritual being, but just different names. Like God and Yaweh. Both the same spiritual being, but he has different names. Before the devil got banished from heaven by St. Michael, he was known as Lucifer: meaning the light bearer. His job was to put out the morning star.

Same being different names, evil either way. Read Job and see how he killed Job's family one by one and then took all Job had. Then gave Job boils. evil is evil no matter what you call him/it.
I do not capitalize his name for he is not worth it.
Read Job, it will only take a few minutes to see what evil does and did to him.

Everybody knows him by a different name, some say this and some that. Evil is evil either way. He will lie and then pow knock you down and do all he can to you.
